Health Performance of Indoor Environment: An Overview on Existing Perspectives


Abstract

To create a healthy environment in building, it is necessary to formulate a system capable of analyzing, assessing and managing health performance data during occupancy of a building. To fulfill such needs, health-friendly design principles, life cycle health-performance data, health performance evaluation and health management concepts were reviewed and discussed in several studies. Such studies usually focus on health performance in a building. Selecting building materials based only on their health performance while ignoring other properties is likely to lead to higher maintenance costs for provision of healthy indoor environment. For a more efficient maintenance, the health performance shall be considered during design stage. In this study, different models of health performance evaluation and the opportunities for designing a more sustainable healthy buildings are reviewed and discussed.
